Had a few days visit with several of my ex-co-workers from Austin this past week and one of them just talks about nothing but saltwater, saltwater, saltwater fishin so being as how I'm just the easiest person around, I took them down to the 91st street pier in Galveston on Saturday mornin to catch some sharks. Now, I aint much of a saltwater person. I dont like the salt, hot sun, shrimpy smell and other obnoxius stuff that one associates with saltwater fishing but when I go to fish a pier in Galveston I figure its gonna be a talk and visit session and not much fishin. This time we did catch some fish regardless of the size. Sandtrout was plentiful and hardheads were plentiful but we started using the sandies for bait and I hooked a big enough shark that I fought it for about 10 minutes before it broke my 25lb test line. Man, was that a battle. Lot of sharks being caught and saw some Mackerel being caught as well. Not for sure if they were spanish or king but they sure looked good. Not much else being caught but we had a good time catching fish, talking about old times from work and just enjoying each others company. We hit the pier at 5:30 and left at 11 am when the sun started blazing down on us. Now for me, thats a 2 hours drive down there and a 2 hour drive back. I'm 20 minutes from Lake Conroe. Tell me which I prefer? Yep, you got it.
