i have been down to matagorda twice and have used live shrimp and cut bait to fish. While i have been lucky with catfish and sandtrout, and even a couple of speckled trout, redfish have eluded me. Am i using the wrong type of bait or just at the wrong spot? Any suggestion as to what bait/lures to try or a different spot?

Im not sure ben but you can use pieces of large crab and they work just as well. I do agree with HH though. Crab, by far, is the best bait for redfish. however if you are fishing with Jackie for those freshwater fereight trains it can be either shad or live perch. Varies from day to day. lol

you are allow some under size crabs but must be in a seperate container than table crabs and may not have more than 10 percent of total catch as bait crabs. if i was fishing i would not be crab for table crabs just to be safe so grab a dz small crabs and fish on.
