I had a friend send me a video of him fishing for flounder in the bay. He didn't pay attention to where they were or what they used for bait. I have never fished in the ocean before but I have my boat up at conroe now, so i'm tempted. I was wondering what people normally use for bait and any locations a person might be able to get into a few. I thought I might get some of the mullet and run them on the bottom and just drift fish. will this work or do you need to anchor in an inlet. sorry when it comes to flounder and salt water im clueless.

The best I know of is to fish a deep cut or channel in a pass. Use mud minnows or shrip jigs like gulp with 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig and bounce off the bottom on slow retrive. At night get a lantern and a gig and head for knee deep water around weeds. Just make sure not to get a small one. Might want to ckeck on gigging regs. before you go.

Flounder love finger mullet. Fish for them on the bottom with a carolina rig set up. I use a 1/2 oz slip sinker and a small circle hook.

As said above, concentrate around mouths of bayous, canals, passes, etc. Best time is when tide is moving . . . feeding activity usually stops when the tide goes slack. Muddy bottoms are best for flounder. Finger mullet and mud minnows are top choices for live bait.

does anyone know of any decent places that you might wade to gigg some flounder? Im thinking I might just drive down to galveston and try somewhere around the bay if i can find a place.
