Man it started off slow after the rain. Maybe we were crazy to even go. Well my buddy and i loaded up our gear and headed out to Saint Luis Pass. The first hour we had only caught a few. Just when you thought it was going to be a bad nite the tides turn literally. Man it was like we were gigging one every 10 minutes or so. It crazy! One time my buddy had gigged one and right next to his right foot was a large 22' one. He couldn't move so he called me and i came running over there. DANG this thing was huge. We were out there for about 4 hours and came home with 20 of them bad boys. Four of which were 22', 23'. the rest average around 15-18 inch. It sure is fun when the action is good. couldnt lay all the flounder out for pics cuz the ice chest water was freezing. Oh yea i didnt have a measuriong tape handy so i figure a coolant jug would of given you a good idea. Till the next trip

I would say the fall flounder run is prime time to catch them on rod and reel. I am not sure about gigging though. I saw a guy catch one over 4 inches thick a few years back at sea wolf park during the run. I believe it went on to be certified as the state record. I think it was like 11 pounds and some change. Mud minnows next to the sub. That is a terrific mess of fish you got there. It was worth the wait!!! Thanks for the pics and the report

I`v never gig for them just RR but I would like to do the giging thing

Gil G boat is infested with snakes just like Gil said BFT pond is infested with them. LOL. If you need me to help Gil give me a call. LOL

Just kidding. If Gil catches flounder like he puts a hurting on the catfish and white bass you should have a blast.

Nice mess of fish. Mmmm baked flounder.

Yes the flounder regs change next year. From TPWD

For flounder, the recreational daily bag limit will decrease from 10 to 5 fish, and the commercial bag limit from 60 to 30 fish. During the month of November, hook and line anglers will be permitted to take 2 flounder per day, with take by all other gear prohibited. Possession limit cannot exceed the daily bag limit. These new regulations represent an attempt to reverse a long-term downward trend in the abundance of southern flounder.
