I was wondering if anyone here has try to go after Sharks? Not the 2 ft ones but larger. And if someone has pointers on the subject. We may try this on our next saltwater trip just for CPR's if possible.

He fishes for sharks in his kayak? You have to be kidding me. Vett0 and I werejust talking about fishing for big fish off a yak. I wonder how they handle reeling in a big fish in when a yak with not having some thing to anchor you down. I have never been in a yak much less fished off of one. It sould be very intresing to hear what Mr. Randy has to say about the subject.

i fish for them regularly. we've caught some real nice ones offshore of san luis pass were yall were fishing. when in the boat i use big circle hooks and 400 lb mono line just free line a large mullet or pogi(big shad). or when the surf is flat i chase the shrimp boats offshore. i use the mono in the boat so when i pull one onside of the boat i can just cut the line. then i also fish the surf with my long rods with 400lb steel leader, spider wieghts and large circle hooks. the trick to circle hooks is to leave alot of the hook exposed so the bait doesn't ball up on it. go to fishing tackle unlimited or bass pro for leader material and hooks. academy does sell the big stuff.

Thanks for the info we are going to another FTU store over by the shop on the westside. And won't make it out on to the water til nextweekend. Are you making it to the Muster this weekend? If you do bring some pix so we can get educated on how to handle a shark.

I apologize, I won't be able to make muster. My better half is addicted to catching bullreds so we are meeting about 15 yakkers at High Island tomorrow. Randy will have info on yak sharking and I think he will be at the muster. He usually carries the type of rods/reels/leaders/etc we typically use in his new trailer. He can also tell you how to CPR a shark out of a yak. Wish I could be there. Sounds like fun.

No problem bud there will be plenty other muster and get togethers. Those bull reds get addicting after the first one. You guys be safe out there, we will be hear to read your report afterwords. Good luck
