tarpon fishing off the TX coast?

I was about to go to Florida to Tarpon fish but the oil problem has caused me to rethink my odds againts what it would cost compared to what I might catch. Betting about 3K don't fit my plans for a definite maybe.
Has anyone fished for Tarpon out of Galveston in the past few months, if so with who and how did you do.
Thanks in advance and I'd take some second hand news.

I jumped a big tarpon a few years ago, drifting a whole mullet about a half mile south of the south jetty in Galveston.

A friend of mine that use to guide for bass (that should make you feel confident) now guides exclusively for tarpon out of Galveston. Yall turned some of the same corners. Bill Cannon. Call him mention me and he will give you directions to the devils triangle.
