I have been posting pictures and videos on the "Jig Tying" forum ... just because it was a continuation of some flies I tied. But that thread is for tying related pics and vids.
I figured I'd post my fishing pictures and videos here, instead. Starting with today's short trip. Wind blew me off the water after only a couple of hours of fishing.

Thank you, Silent ...
About 96% of my fishing is on my own. I invite people to call me when they want to go ... few do.

and Lou.
One of the things I love about fly fishing, and Florida water. You never know what the next fish will be.

Lou The Fisherman
12-08-2015, 02:45 PM
You are correcto there Mr. Mike especially if the water is brackish. You have a combo of fresh and saltie.

We have that here South of the Lake Hou Dam on the San Jac River. The San Jac flows into the Gulf of Mex. and it's brackish water all the way t the dam.
You throw it out there and it could be a Red, Spec, Flounder and all the fresh water species.

Is that a Seahawks hat in Florida? Nice bass.

mikechell
12-14-2015, 10:00 PM
That's James' hat. I have no idea who the "Seahawks" are or what sport they play. James was probably given the hat and doesn't know who they are either.
Sorry, I don't follow organized sports ... haven't since the base "bawlers" went on strike in the '90s.

Today's outing was less productive than last Sunday. James didn't catch a thing. We both got hits, but without hooksets, I believe they were Gar.
The only fish of the day came just before the wind got too bad.

I think the local name for it is a "Shell Cracker" ... but it's one of the largest Redear Sunfish I've ever caught.

It's an 8 weight, which means it will throw larger flies than I am currently used to. I am just waiting for some fly line I ordered for it ... and I'll be ready to fish.

It was calm, until about 10. The boaters started running up and down the river about then. I got off the water about 11:00am ... that was when the water was roiling like a seaside surf.

mikechell
12-28-2015, 02:09 PM
I've got two bags of 20 fillets each, in the freezer. We have a fry once in a while.
I'd have them once a week, but the rest of the family is less favorable to that. So, I "replace" a bag when we eat one.

Dutch
12-31-2015, 02:29 PM
Killa, the weight should be on the blank. You need to match the line weight to the rod. I have an 8 foot 5 weight fly rod I got when I was about 14. I used to just kill the bluegill on some local ponds in Kansas.

mikechell
12-31-2015, 03:18 PM
Being the cheapie I am, I buy cheap. The line in the picture cost me $7.57 including shipping, from E-bay. It's probably what you consider "weed eater" line. All my rods (7 now) have floating, weight forward line. I didn't spend more than $25.00 for any of them.
There are a lot of good lines available, but I am the wrong person to ask ... if you're talking all the high priced alternatives.

Well, I figured I'd add this here. It's not Florida, but it is fishing a la me. Last weekend here in Illinois. Going home next Saturday ... YEA !!!
I did do some fishing this weekend. The temps were in the 40's ... which is acceptable for short periods of time. So, over the last two days, I've hit several creeks and rivers with open water. Couldn't find any of the prettier fish like Sunnies and Small Mouth ... but I did manage to hook a few Creek Chubs on a fly.

Big bait fish?

Looks like a big minnow. Cool looking tho

mikechell
01-31-2016, 08:05 PM
Chub ... one of the larger members of the "minnow" family. Good call, Vett. I don't know of anyone eating them, so I don't think they are.
The last picture ... that fish is about 10 inches long ... which is a big fish for this species. They feel like a trout, in the hand. The flesh doesn't feel firm. Probably edible, like eating a small trout.

Water color and clarity has a lot to do with color

Bass from Sheldon and luces have the black color when the water is realy tannic and dark

mikechell
02-26-2016, 02:39 PM
Oh yeah, Daniel ... I know that's why these fish are so dark. Most of the water I fish is almost as dark as coffee. I'll scoop some up in a glass next time I am on the water.
But the "Coppernose" Bluegill has coloration that is more than just environmental reaction. I think it's considered a sub-species Bluegill, separate from the true Bluegill strain.
I catch both kinds here.

Plus I like fishing fish from fast flowing rivers. They grow up stronger, needing to fight the current all their lives.
This one from yesterday ... I tried fishing with a spinning rod and soft plastics, to see if I could find bigger fish.

Caught this one ... but it's no bigger than the fly rod fish. I caught much fewer fish. I prefer a bunch of little ones with the chance at a larger one to just a few fish of any size ... so it's back to fly fishing for me.

Okay ... wrapping up a week in Milwaukee. Been a lot of rain. I got one chance to wade the Milwaukee River, almost downtown.

And this evening, I fished a pond in Wilson Park ... a little south of Milwaukee, near the airport. I finally caught a little nicer bass !!!

By the time I got everything lined up and ready to go, I only had a few minutes of daylight. Stopped at Cypress Creek under I-45.
Didn't catch anything.

I stopped by Monday where I go hoping to see a rental car parked there. Haha. I hooked two but both got lose before I could snap a pic. I must be rusty at holding on to them and get phone out to snap a pic
