Holy Cow!
I was looking at the Texas Lakes and Bays Atlas and noticed that it shows the water in both bays is only about 6 ft. deep. I was shocked, expecting it to be much deeper.
Don't guess I'll be putting my boat in there.
Shoot, I didn't realize you could pretty much walk it!
If you were tall, which I am not!

You have to know where your going in the bays or you can get stuck quick.

according to historians, Galveston's bay system has filled up with sediment,, around the turn of 1900 schooner ships still sailed Galveston bay, East bay and Trinity bay,,,the Houston ship channel has been deepened and widen several times, West bay was probably a little deeper ,but does not have the run off of San Jacinto river and Trinity river,,, long before the Trinity river dam at Livingston, barges and river boats navigated the Trinity river to Dallas,, there is an old lock and dam system at hwy 7 between Centerville and Crockett

People are just so darn smart and ambitions. To get from where we were to where we're at! I think the Port of Houston is the farthest inshore port there is over 50 miles to the gulf. I think that took a lot of guts to start a job like that, guts and vision.
