and today reminded me of a childhood incident, spent my last nickel for a fudge cycle and it fell off the stick. The morning left a lot to be desired with one blackdrum and a gafftop. Went in eat and took a nap and headed back out, the afternoon was some better and the good part was a 44" by Doug Hughes as the last fish of the day.
Oh well beats a quick stab in the eye with a sharp stick.

One mo day and dear God please make it a very special one, keep us safe and let the fish find us we ain't doing such a good job of finding them. Never the less it is a wonderful life and I would not change mine for anything.

Order of business today, was trying to get the morning SKUNK off the boat. One hardhead and that was it from the high secrete always gottem hole. We took off around noon for the baitshop cafe delicates net and found a table to lick our wounds. here comes johnny-on-the-spot and clues us in on the newest bigred can't miss hole. Well my friends it did just that, missed so it back to the skunk smell. We decided to try one more of those nicer looking spots on the way in. Oh me oh my, paydirt and we managed to land three nice bulls and had two either break off or get off.
We plan for an early start tomorrow and be headed home by 8:30 AM if they ain't biting and 9:30 AM if they are. Short day of it.

and yesterday provided one mo string stretcher and then we made the long run home. Fun but not great just so-so. Maybe I expect to much and it may never be like I remember the 24 bulls in half a day of fishing. I'm talking real bulls and six an hour is some arm workout. At any rate I experienced it first hand and hope it returns to the glory days.

Great photos as usual.
Welcome back to East Texas. The weather was bad yesterday and driving conditions were awful. Glad you made it back safe.

We had fun and enjoyed the mini vacation but the Bull Red Run was either way off or we are way early. The biologist told me that after the hurricane and big flood it changed Sabine Pass, guess I'm living proof.
We normally have one day of catching more reds than we did in three and a half days. Guess all good things come to an end, but I sure wasn't ready for this un.

My guess would be y'all were a tad bit late....
Deer are rutting strong and other animals are well into the winter activities.......
-
late Sept/early Oct is the peak of the run.

Something was sure wrong. For nearly 30 years I have gone to Sabine Pass right at Thanksgiving and caught the heck out of Bull Reds, to the tune of 20-30 fish a day. Usually going in from being give out with arms and back aching. I may plan a return trip around Thanksgiving to see if it is really over.
Way to expensive and time consuming to continue the trek with the lackluster results.

Yes sir those salty trips rack up the bucks for sure....
