    Price of motor repair !!!

OMG! Called a guy about replacing my Tilt motor and doing a tune up for me. He said the part was $160 and he'd change plugs and lower unit oil 4 hrs labor for a little over $500. I thought are you kidding me??? but he was not. He's charging about $70 per hr labor. Does that sound right to you guys??? If not give me some info on some south side repairmen.
I guess he thinks I have a Champion or a Ranger instead of an ole Jon boat.
    thanks 8)

Specialty mechanics rates are freaking outrageous and border on theft.
    I'm not a sportsman, I'm a fisherman. There's a difference.

That seems a little expensive to me, I know I just had my experience with mechanics who wanted an arm and a leg, but it was on my truck not on a motor.

Small motors are not that difficult to work on. I have a friend that had a 9.9 tuned up last week and the bill was $131.00. That was for 2 plugs and clean the carb. It takes about 10 min to remove the carb ...soak for 30 min and 10 min ton put it all back together. Cost is less than 1 hr. and $15 for carb cleaner which lasts a long time (available at auto part stores)
