Out this past week with some inlaw/outlaw kinfolks and he made the statement that he kept all he catches. Not that he catches all that many and a jug fisherman to boot. I ask why he kept fish if he didn't need them, he said I like to give fish to my friends. I ask about the cost involved and he said it was only about $6 per trip. He fishes out of a barge and never goes far from the dock. I ask are you sure about the $6 per trip. I guess he doesn't figure the wear and tear on his pickup(he is looking for a new back bumper that he bent down towing the barge) or the barge and outboard along with the terminal tackle, electric knife&blades. At any rate on the day I took him, it was cold, I had on my Arctic Armor and commented all I had on was underwear and a tshirt. In a day or two he called and ask where to get Arctic Armor, I told him and after finding out they cost about $340 per set he was off of that idea. he will eventually learn that fishing cost a lot more than he first thought. He only started fishing in the last year but he will find out about the hidden cost sooner or later. Most who fish know that it cost from $50 up per pound of caught fish. That is for the tow truck/vehicle, boat&trailer, fuel&oil, various sundry equipment and such. New fishermen amaze me, but get smarter after a short time.
