Vigwig, welcome aboard! I don’t believe you will find a friendlier group of fishermen or women anywhere. There are so many people with experience on different bodies of water, different species of fish, and different methods of fishing, all willing to help or get help from you. Please let us know what you fish for and where. Also, pictures are always appreciated.

Hi, this is Vic. My fishing buddy and I were fishing in the vicinity of Seven Coves marina September 20. There was a young lady minding the till at Anchorage Marina and we borrowed her scale to weigh our catfish. She is our witness it weighed approximately 34 lbs (actually 33 lbs and something). Her camera didn’t work. Two workers at Anchorage Marina also witnessed. We gave one of them a few catfish for their troubles. Egads, it was work enough to get the 34 lb fish without it being 44 lbs! It hung up in one of our anchor lines, one of our fishing lines and a stringer in the process. We freed the line from all of them. I was fishing a Jarvis Walker pole and reel combo from Academy with 17 lb Spider mono line and two 2/0 gold Eagle Claw, Aberdeen hooks. I hooked him in the corner of the mouth fare and square and played him for 40 minutes before netting him. After about 4 aborted attempts to net him with a $5 or $6 net from Academy, we used both that kind of net, one on each end. He broke the aluminum hoop on my net and I had to put down the pole and use both hands to bring him in sans handle. While my friend was using liver mainly, I, as is my custom, was using strictly nightcrawlers, ½ of a worm on each hook. We employed no means to enhance our prospects such as chum, depth finder, fish finder or guide. We just fish by trial and error. We are both avid Lake Conroe fishermen and fish during the week. My son and I go on Saturdays using my Fish n Sport 510 mini-pontoon boat (probably the only one on Lake Conroe), recently upgrading to a 5 HP Briggs & Stratton after a number of years using a 3.3 HP Mercury purchased in 1993 and used for years on a jon boat.
A retired (not from fishing) die hard fisherman, Vic
P.S. Couldn't attach a picture, maybe later when I figure this thing out. You can go to http://www.miletechnologies.com/fish...onroe%2034lbs/
to see the video we made. You can also go to the parent directory there to see other fishing forays we made.
