Hi Everyone:

I hope you all had a safe and wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!! Starting a new year is a great time to thank all of you for your dedication and support of our Aquatic Education efforts. Without you all, our program would not exist or continue to grow as it has. We appreciate everything you do and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving your time and sharing your knowledge with new anglers. It is also a great time to share with you opportunities for this new year.

I have listed them below along with contact information and a brief description of the help needed.

January 27, 2007- 9 AM to 2 PM, TPWD Basic Fly Fishing Workshop, Brazos Bend State Park. Registration is limited to 40 participants and is filling fast. If you are interested in helping teach or want to participate, please call me at 281-534-0123 or [email protected]

February 24, 2007- 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Flat Out Fishing Seminar, Lake Jackson- I am looking for someone to set up an information booth at the seminar on our TPWD Angler Education program and pass out information. Please contact Brenda Justice at [email protected] or 281-534-0123.

February 24, 2007- 10 AM to 3 PM, TPWD Angler Education Instructor Workshop, Sheldon Lake State Park- If you are an Area Chief Instructor and would like to assist with this workshop, please give me a call. This would be a great opportunity to "get your feet wet" while co-teaching with me and training our new Angler Ed Instructors. Contact: [email protected] or 281-534-0123

February 28th to March 4th, 2007- Houston Fishing Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Currently, I need assistance on Thursday, March 1st (anytime that day from 12 PM to 9 PM.-preferably 4 hour shift), Friday, March 2nd (from 4 to 9 PM).

May 4th thru 6th, 2007- TPWD Angler Education Advanced Training and Area Chief Meeting- Parrie Haynes Youth Ranch in Killeen- If you are interested in becoming an Area Chief Instructor or learning something new, Angler Education Instructors are invited to attend this 3 day meeting. More details will appear in the next Reel Lines Newsletter.

Other Opportunities:

Brazos Bend State Park Fishing Events- I have attached a schedule of fishing events for this year at Brazos Bend State Park. Staff are looking for folks to help them mostly with their fishing derbies and on the water fishing programs. Contact information is included on the attachment.

Takemefishing, Houston- Starting in March, there will be numerous fishing events related to this project where volunteer help is always needed. TPWD's partnership with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation on this pilot project is entering year 2 of the study, and I will be working with 4 schools. Assistance is mostly needed at Family Fishing Events held on the following days and locations: March 17th- Eisenhower Park Lake, March 24th- Grissom Elementary Family Fishing Seminar-Houston, March 31st- Mary Jo Peckham Park Lake in Katy, April 21st- Mary Jo Peckham Park Lake in Katy, and May 4th- Tom Bass Park Lake #3
Assistance varies from teaching all aspects of angler education to cutting up worms for bait at these events. Spanish speaking volunteers are also needed, however it is not a requirement.

May 26, 2007- Lake Somerville, Katy Bass Pro Shop is hosting a kayak fishing tournament to benefit for Camp for All, (a non profit camp for kids with diseases and disabilities). The tournament will be open to all ages and organizers are looking for someone to do an additional fishing activity from land, such as casting for backyard bass. Hi everyone:

Currently, I have a contract worker position open with the Takemefishing, Houston project which is now entering year 2. The project is an integrated marketing and grassroots education pilot program aimed at increasing participation in fishing and aquatic stewardship among Hispanic families in Houston. Built upon the Take Me FishingTM campaign, this multi-year program includes numerous partnerships and a variety of outreach activities and educational events.
