Old sayings and myths broken or not.

This is just a post of curiosity. There are so many old sayings and myths and wives tales, i just figured why not post a few. Such as no bannanas on board. I had never heard it till here. what other superstition have yall heard. Such as the crappie or white bass run when the dogwood blooms. Post any myth and if you know of it confirmed or busted.

One i had heard the other night on the history channel i never knew was the purpose of the carving of a woman on the front of a ship was to calm the sea. I always wondered about that.
