The inflatables are intentionally short. They only go down to the middle of your chest and the strap goes around you way above the waist. This is by design, so the floation is for the chest and head, to keep your face above water. When deployed, the air bladder comes out of the canvas storage section and is much larger and extends closer to the waist. I find it is very comfortable to wear all day because it does not interfere with bending over and leaves plenty of room for my ample stomach girth. LOL.

Ben - you will have to show me yours. As you know, I don't like wearing PFD's so this may be the ticket??

Lou, if you don't enjoy the bulkiness of a regular PFD invest in the inflatable ones. If you put some time into it you can find one that fits perfect and you won't ever know it's there. I went through 2 PFD's until I actually found one that I enjoy wearing while I paddle around.

I always wear my pfd. I just upgraded mine to a automatic inflater. It can be set for manual or auto and it does not interfere with anything.I spend most of my time alone on the water and if I hit my head on the way out of the boat it's good to know that it would still open. I also always carry a small knife so that I could cut myself loose if needed. John <*{{{>(

PFD'S! Yup I do not get on my kayak with out one. I break the fishing rule of never fish alone just about all the time.
But I do let my wife know where I am going and when to expect me home.
If I'm late and don't answer my phone (which is in a water proof box) send some one to come get me! CALLING ALL CARS!
I just hope a Gator isn't chewing on my good PFD.
Since I have a pretty stable kayak I tend to stand a lot and I fear the wind or just my balance might one day get the best of me. I agree with having a normal PFD and not an inflaitable.
Murphy does not like me much so if I go in the drink I'm expecting to get hurt!
So I wear mine faithfully, I keep my little rescue whistle on it as well just incase.
Hope for the best, Plan for the worst!
