No duck hunting allowed...it's a state park.

call 361 7825718 and talk to the ladies at the park hq re info on hunting. this last fall they had a drawing for hunters to remove some of the deer from the state park - however, the state park only covers bout 10 pct of the shoreline. never seen anything come out of that lake but lm bass, wh bass, crappppie, perch, buffalo, shad, gar and carp - did I mention catfish?? lots of cats, esp flatheads. perch hard to come by there. people at the SP and Breckenridge park keep an eye on fish traps so that's out. turbid water slows the worm/hook proposition. submurged timber limits castnetting. in other words, take your live bait with you. jugging is good for cats to appx 40 lbs but in my experience, you use a big live bait like a large bullhead then next morn you may find your jug or it may be somewhere else wrapped up in logs. lots of timber in there and it don't stop just cuz you can't see it anymore - even tho I anchor my trotlines every 10 hooks, they still get pulled sideways into structure. tough lake to fish but plenty of big cats. cut shad gets you lots of bluecats and some channels - have even caught a few flatties on cut shad. in summer lots of gators about and they may be what's pulling my lines around. no evidence - just a suspicion.

Cool texana bass

I fished texana some years back, during the post spawn, and did very well on pork-o's. we fished in shallow water around hyacinth beds, caught bass to 5lbs. haven't been back, heard the lake suffered greatly during the last drought, but is back to pool level now. I plan on fishing it again soon, especially the upper lake/navidad river section, there is some clearer water up there, or was in the past. Some fishermen shy away from the muddy water, but it can be easier to catch bass in if you embrace it, it's just not as pretty. you can get closer to them without spooking them and, if you like pitching and flipping, it shines in muddy water!
