What about this? Heard all my life that this is snake spit (so to speak)....is this true? Or is this something mothers tell their children to keep them away from certain area's?

Good question about the snake spit. I have always heard that too and always wondered too. It looks for real.

I pulled this off texassnake.net's myth page:

Snakes spit. Not the ones in Texas. The clumps of foam-looking spittle found on blackberry bushes and vines in Texas are often thought to be "snake spit," but the fact is, this foam is produced by Spittle Bugs.

didnt the momma bug ever tell them younguns not to be spittin on their dinner plates like that heck pick the black berries and dont worry if ya shake a stick close to the ground inside them berry bushes them snakes will haul on outa their or shake their tail back at ya thats the way i do it in wild bushes aint never been bit yet. oh yea if ya want to get rid of them spittle bugs dust the bushes with sevin dust ya dont have to wait 7 or 8 days that way ya can go ahead and pick the berries and all ya have to do is wash em off sevin is safe to use around you and the pets. if them are wild berries they sure are small ones. if ya want big berries call your farm extension office and they will recommend what to use to feed them and make smaller stalks with bigger berries. we had em on the property in california and couldnt git rid of them without killing everything else so we just feed em and eat the produce from them

Looks like a Green Treefrog (Hyla cinerea) The male's advertisement call is a harsh, nasal "quank-quank-quank . . . ," repeated about once per second. From a distance, calls sometimes sound bell-like, which accounts for the local name of "cowbell frog." Green Treefrogs range throughout the southeastern states; their raucous calls are commonly heard in cypress swamps during spring and early summer. We had one of these that was living in our awning last summer and would come out to seranade us and it was a pretty good bug eater too.

I know....I usually go fishing 2 or 3 times a week....but due to moving I haven't been in over 3 weeks save wetting a line in a little pond in New Caney the other day. But that didn't count! We'll definetly 'hook up':icon_wink: and see if we can't find some lunkers in those ponds. Only bad thing about fishing cow ponds is when you hook up with a big one and get all excited....you really get into the fight and "BAM!" next thing you know you're laying on your back in the middle of some grass and water kindly recycled by the local cows. :icon_eek: It happens!:icon_redface:
