I ran across this poem and though it might be nice for us old codgers to remember a time that is now gone.

Soda Fountain
by Joan Holman

The drug store soda fountain dwells
in dim, nostalgic citadels.
Once bustling hub is now passé---
a memory of another day.
Beyond the bar, a mirrored wall
reflects the shiny knobs and all
the refrigerated box, that gleams,
its cavities filled with ice creams,
for sundaes, with cherry-topped dome,
and fountain drinks, that fizz and foam
for sodas, malteds, chocolate shake,
while pausing, on a shopping break.
A rendezvous, where old friends meet.
A place to flirt and share a treat,
while perched atop tall stools that twirl
as overhead, black fan blades whirl.
Or seated in secluded booth,
swapping secrets, relishing youth.
Miniature juke box, close at hand,
with latest hits at our command.
Sipping chocolate or cherry Cokes,
exchanging all the latest jokes.
In memory, I now retrace
my steps to that familiar place.
And linger midst my reverie
of days and ways that used to be,
where drug store soda fountain dwells
in, nostalgic citadels.
