I learned flat bottom boats, shallow water, and barges don't mix. I was fishing the intercostal canal close to the bank and a big barge came by and sucked all the water out from under my boat. I was sitting in the sand and mud then and right after that the water came back in and right on in the boat. The bottom of the boat created a suction with the sand and mud and did not release soon enough. I was standing in water in the middle of the boat! I had to step out, turn on the bilge pump, and rock the boat to get it loose. Now I pay attention when I see a barge! Catfishjon

I had a oil tanker blow a 8' wave at me in my G3 last November. It looked like that wave on Hawai 50! We ran under Hwy 146 and turned out and away from it just in time. it would have flipped my boat for sure. I just heard recently about a Capt. on the ship channel getting busted for destroying multible boats in their moorings because he was breaking the speed limit in the channel. Maritime law states each vessel is responsible for any damage cause by thier wake.
