Test the Bull Red Zone

I hooked up with My buddy Mark to test out the Big Bull Reds waters. Our first plan of action was to find good fresh bait. Good thing with this time of year is the Mullet can be found in large #'s.

We did find good size Mullet and saw a bunch of bait at each spot we looked for them.

Good bait = Bull Reds ( If they are there).

One cast and caught these.

We really liked the color of water even though the wind was way higher than was predicted to be. LOL

After we caught bait and fished for a while as we moved spot to spot. We figured to eat a surprise Mark's wife ( Mary ) made us. Shrimp salad and crackers and a cold drink.

After we ate or grub we made our move to fish the big bull area. We got to spot and there were three boats there. We have not ever seen that many boats in that area. So we just figured to move and find a spot close to area and try our luck. Looking at other boats in area not much action was going on. I rigged one pole up with live Mullet and second one with a live Croaker. As I cast out my second rod my first pole gets hit hard. I set second pole down and set hook on first one. I was smiling thinking I have a Red on till I saw a big Lady Fish fly out the water. LOL As I was reeling in that fish my second pole went down and Mark grabbed it and reeled in another big Lady Fish. I rigged up poles again and as I did Marks pole went down. Yes another Lady Fish. I got both of my rods out and it was fish after fish. Almost all Lady Fish. One of the ones that hit my pole was a Bull Red. I was fighting a Lady Fish and my second pole went down. Mark grabbed it and the drag went to screaming. I got my fish in and Mark was still fighting his. We saw the fish come up to top close to boat and it was a Bull Red. Well the Red saw us and turned on the jet burners and shot out of there. It was not happy to be on the end of the line and in a blink of an eye he broke off. We looked like kids that got told we couldn't have any candy, when it got loose.

To us it was a good trip. Our main goal was to make sure bait was there and see how the water looks. Catching fish was a bonus. Reeling in about 20 Lady Fish is a blast.

Great story. Been a long time since i"ve gone after bull reds and the water clarity looked perfect. Those live mullet do make for some good bull red bait. The bigger the better imo.

Jackie You don't know how bad I wanted that fish in the boat. The reel I won in auction from you is the reel that Red was fighting. I wanted to Have that Red and your reel in the same pic so you can see it is still a Red catching machine.
