Went out with a few friends and fished the surf for a little bit yesterday morning. Surf was fairly calm past the first gut and the water was off colored a bit. Water color turned to chocolate milk as the day went on. We caught several 10-14 inch dink specs coming up with only a few keepers, along with some whiting. We also caugh a few gaftop, hardheads, bluefish, yellow tails, spanish mackeral and sand trout. All were caught using live shrimp under popping corks. Not much luck using artificials.

Fresh Sand Trout are great eating. The best bait for them is cut sand trout, better than shrimp and it stays on the hook better. Just fillet off a side, leave the skin on, and cut it into chunks. Put the hook through the skin from meat side to skin side. They nail it hard. Use the head for bait for larger fish.
