S La Marsh Fishing Day 1

A co-worker from Broussard, La invited me for a weekend trip to his duck hunting resort for a trip to the marsh to try to find some specs and flounder and if not, then chase redfish. Of course I said heck yeah I'm in for that. So I punched in some GPS coordinates and headed to Pecan Island, LA. After a restful night listening to Hoot Owls and other marsh critters, we took off for a day of marsh fishing.

The specs and reds were having none of our fresh cast netted shrimp. What doesn't eat shrimp? So we targeted reds and I finally hooked up with my first Louisiana redfish

Well once we found em, action was pretty steady until we had to run from an approaching storm.

After the storm, we hit a few more spots and picked up 2 nice trout and more reds. Box Shot, 9 Reds / 2 Spec’s (largest Spec -21”, Largest Red 28”+)

Day 1 was such great fun, we had to go do it again after an evening of cleaning fish while fighting skeeters. After all had to put that $90 non-Resident fishing license to use. Day 2 was not as cooperative, catfish and crabs were the order of the day

We went to fish Rockefeller on Day 2 ending w: 8- keeper Reds / 1- Puppy Drum & 1 - nice Flounder but it was a grind picking up 1 here and 1 there.

That half red looks fantastic. It reminds me of some good pit cooking in the past. I need to dig in my freezer and see if I have any of those left.

And I do like them redfish on the half shell. I didn't think you could beat blackened but this does it.

Great trip Harvey! And that Red on the pit is makin' my mouth water. Did ya get a taste of any REAL dirty rice? I loves me some true dirty rice made with liver!!!
