I propose we have a muster the weekend of October 6-7 at the Cagle Campground on Lake Conroe. This will be the weekend before the conclusion of the Catfish Contest organized by FishingTx.Com. The Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival is the following weekend of October 13-15. Anyone interested?

I have site 34 at Cagle reserved for the 5th - 8th of October. I had already reserved site 35 for the 9th - 16th for vacation and to attend the Festival.

06-20-2006, 04:41 PM
Wayne, do you know if the surrounding sites are still available? Are your sites with water and sewer? I am gonna look into renting a travel trailer. Does anyone have one to rent out?

saundecw
06-20-2006, 05:53 PM
NCFL, all the sites at Cagle have full hookups. The restrooms have hot water and showers also. There are two areas or loops of campsites, the Sycamore Loop is closest to the lake and that is where I have my reservations. The only sites reserved are 34 and 35 right now for the weekend of the 6th - 8th. You can go to the the Reserve America website and do a search for Cagle, they have a map of the campground and you can find the dates available for each site. They charge nine dollars to reserve a site regardless of the number of days plus the daily fee at the campround. A membership with Reserve America is free and you have access to campsites all over the USA.

I told my wife about this last night and she said it sounds like a lot of fun. We have a new tent that we have only tried out in the backyard when we had a lot of company at the house so this would be a great excuse to use it. My wife was even more thrilled when she asked what the wives would do while the men went fishing and I told her that they would go fishing too. Maybe some of the women on here can get her over not liking to take her own fish off the line.:icon_surprised:

Mrs.Reedlv maybe able to help out with that. I told my wife a long time ago. She can fish with me evertime I go, but she will have to take her own fish off. So now she has a pair of gloves in the boat.

DStreet
06-30-2006, 11:08 AM
My wife said that if I gave her a pair of gloves and the little metal grippers to grab the catfish with she would take them off so some progress is being made.:p

reedlv
06-30-2006, 04:06 PM
You have to teach her to crawl before she can walk. LOL

All kidding aside. If she wears some thin leather gloves to hold them. The gloves will save some fairly painful fin wounds and a good pair of needle nose will remove the hook. Bring her to the Muster. The team can and will give you both all of the adive you could ever want.

I believe I can make it up that way for the entire muster. I need to try and invest in or borrow a camper for the trip. I will bring the boat and the Reedlv BBQ pit. Hope to see everyone there. I guess I need to make a coupe of trip between know and then. I will need to have a couple of honey holes. I need a big cat for the contest.

When does the contest begin on Conroe?

jwevansv
06-30-2006, 07:59 PM
I need to start putting together some more camping gear. I may have to rent a small camper since my wife isn't too thrilled about "roughing-it" in a tent. I just asked her if she wanted to go and she said it sounds like fun. She will be very impresses with the big cats some of you are bound to catch. If I pull a camper how do I pull a boat? I suppose if I get a small John boat it can sit atop the camper?

I cut my pvc pipe for my jugs today, picked up some rebar at a garage sale for my counter weights, and bought a couple of water noodles to make my jugs for the muster. All I need to get now is the white Duct-tape, the end caps, the eyehooks, the line and the hooks and I'll be ready to assemble some jugs. With the PVC I cut I'll have enough for 24 jugs. I'll post a picture of one when I get the rest of my supplies. The wife and I our looking forward to having a good time and meeting everyone in October. That way you can teach us how to use our jugs properly.

My Grandparents will be on Lake Conroe at Piney shores this weekend and going out on a boat and watching and maybe participating in some jug fishing would be a real treat for them. My grandmother has a bad leg though and can't step up into anything or down into anything so hopefully she would still be able to go out. Even if not I know they would enjoy being around everyone at the campground and partaking in some of the delicious food ya'll cook up so as long as its ok with everybody I would love to bring them.

So the muster is on Friday and Saturday? Will anything be going on Sunday? I will not be able to make it down until Friday night after work. Also if its only going to be on Friday and Saturday what time will everyone be packing up on Saturday? Just wanting to make sure I'll get some time to meet all of you and maybe get my grandparents and my wife and I out for our first jugging experience.

08-02-2006, 04:54 PM
Everybody is welcome. I imagine some will stay through Sunday. The big FishingTx fish fry will be Saturday afternoon. The fish caught between Friday and Saturday morning will be cleaned. We will fry up enough for everybody.

Friday afternoon a community BBQ pit will be fired up for anyone and everybody to use. So bring what you want to toss on the pit. Typical pit fare is venison, pork, sausages, chicken etc.

Come on October.

Just a reminder that this will be the last full weekend to enter a catfish into the contest. Contest ends the following Friday at 8am. So come on out and hook up with somebody and get a catfish into the contest.

Cagle Recreation area is located approximately 5.5 miles west of IH-45 on FM 1375 in New Waverly, on the north end of Lake Conroe. Each campsite has full hook ups, lantern post, tent pad, picnic table and fire ring. There are two camping areas here, Sweetgum Loop and Sycamore Loop. Sycamore Loop is close to the lake and boat ramp and is the preferred area by many. They have a total of 47 sites in both camping areas. Twenty eight of these can be reserved in advance and the others are first come first serve. My reason for asking who had reservations was to see where we stand as far as accommadations were concerned.
