Saturday afternoon I set the hook on what I though was a good fish, only to have the crank bait come out of the water and bite me in the cheek. Here is what I learned:
1. Have a good set of wire cutters on board that are capable of cutting a split ring. Side cutters are too big to get in between a crank bait, the hook, and your fingers that are holding the hook to keep in from twisting while stuck in your face.
2. Keep a bottle of maximum strength anbesol (the stuff for a tooth ache) on the boat or in your tow vehicle. I had some in my truck and I poured it over the hook / wound and after a few minutes the spot was numb enough for one of my bass club members to push the hook thru, with no pain at all!
